About Caravan

Caravan aims for, and achieves, 100 gigs per annum. What this means is that taking out the holiday periods, and building in at least one additional meeting per week for rehearsals, new arrangements, etc. playing four out of eight days is not unusual.

On stage the band wears colour co-ordinated outfits, and always change the colour scheme for repeat gigs. On arrival and for setting up they wear red t-shirts with the Caravan logo so that venue staff can identify the band easily.

When playing regularly at a venue Caravan always changes the programme to provide variety. Fortunately, with a book which runs to over 400 numbers they can do this and also accommodate most requests from the audience.

Our Equipment

A 16 channel PreSonus digital mixing desk feeds two Mackie powered speakers with a combined output of 2.6KW. This is quite adequate for venues up to 600 -700 guests. For larger venues in reserve back at base is a further 1.1KW of amplification. They use up to three stage monitors to ensure the best stage sound, particularly on large stages. All  instruments are routed through the mixer to ensure the best quality sound for all the guests wherever they are located in the hall.

The stage lighting system provides 3KW of DMX controlled colour mix and effects.

Liz plays a Korg Triton keyboard. For vocals she uses an SM58 beta microphone, and also a Shure radio mike.

Gavin on lead guitar plays a Fender Stratocaster with Texas Special pickups, and uses an SM58 microphone. His back-up guitar is a Charvel 6 with a Floyd Rose tremolo. Amplification is via a Mesa Boogie Studio amp. The guitar radio is a Sennheiser Freeport into a Boss GT 10 multi-effects unit.

Steve on rhythm guitar plays either a Fender Stratocaster, or an Epiphone Sheraton II fitted with Seymour Duncan pick-ups, into a Korg AX3000G multi-effects unit. The guitar radio is a Sennheiser Freeport and Steve uses a Vox Valvetronics AD50 amplifier. On vocals his microphones of choice are AKG, both radio and wired.

All of the above equipment fits into a Ford Transit 280 Turbo-diesel van which is always kept loaded ready to go, which means that we are well placed for gigs at short notice, playing venues from Hawick to Stonehaven, East coast to the West, wherever the music takes us.
